1. London boasts Four World Heritage sites. They are Kew Gardens, Maritime Greenwich, the Tower of London and the Palace of Westminster.

4. The First Indian curries sold in London were served in West End coffee houses during the 1770s.

5. Covent Garden is really a spelling mistake! The area used to be the market garden for what is now Westminster Abbey monastery and convent.

6. The FA Cup First took place in 1871 and eight London Football clubs participated in it. Today the competition is open to every club in the league and beyond. The First FA cup Final was hosted in the Oval cricket ground.

7. The London Film Festival is held in various locations in Soho and the West End and has been running for more than 45 years.

8. London is the best connected international city in the world. Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted handle over 7000 international Flights a week which is the equivalent of nearly 43 flights an hour!!

9. There are approximately 7.5 million people living in Greater London making it the biggest city in Western Europe.

10. London has over 480 overseas banks, more than any other city in the world.

11. London is the economic engine generating around £174 billion in output and accounting for 18% of total UK output.

12. The London Stock Exchange is the largest in the world and bigger than New York and Tokyo combined. It has an average daily turnover of £637 billion, nearly a third of the total world activity. London has 300 museums, over 250 art galleries, over 200 theatres, 50of which are in the West End, 6 full time symphony orchestras, over 600 cinema screens, including the UK’s largest at the BFI IMAX.

13. London has 1657 primary schools, 672 state schools, 410 private schools and 168 special schools.
