Importance of our Personal Development Programmes
Personal Development Programmes (PDP)
A structured and supported process undertaken by an individual to reflect upon their own learning, performance and achievement and to plan for their personal, educational and career development.
In many ways, Personal Development Programmes is much like any other kind of planning for achievement, in other words endeavouring towards success involves devising a scheme that will enable you, the planner, to accomplish one or more given purposes. It helps you determine where you are now, where you aim to go, and which actions you might need to take to get there.
By joining ATI, you have already laid some plans for your personal and professional development. In a climate where job opportunities and career patterns are becoming increasingly unpredictable; and skills and the ability to articulate one’s skills increasingly crucial, proper planning needs to continue. You need to
• Evaluate your strengths and preferences.
• Understand the competences you are acquiring both on your degree/professional programme and outside it.
• Monitor and review your progress.
• Strategise for the future.
Personal Development Programmes offers formal mechanisms for doing all of the above: catalysts for reflection, self-assessment and methods for recording them, as well as opportunities for meaningful discussion of learning, achievement and employment.
ATI the 2nd Phase of Personal Development Programmes(PDP)
AT Institute (ATI) College of Professional Studies-The Director Nazim Rajbally talks about the synergistic approach for the ‘Success Endeavour Project’, this aims to support overseas students.
The launch of an educational pilot project initiated by AT Institute for overseas students, whose overall objective is to create a new Personal Development Programme (PDP), which consists of teaching methods and materials that aim to address socio-cultural factors which affect the learner at any stage - in addition to their core area of study. The PDP approach as a development programme lays emphasis upon a number of criteria needed for foreign students to encompass during and even after completion of their courses. The PDP should become an organic part of their daily life and make their focus of on their new curriculum instead, this as a modeling method help to revamp the new generation of learner, through the possible use or without information technology students could be educated in a more synergistic manner and trained in the innovative and multi-disciplinary approach with the PDP.
ATI has a culture of People Orientated Philosophy (POP), and this can only be achieved through PDP which is a well known fact that through the common practice of POP which is a serious challenge aiming at achieving the PDP. A high majority of the overseas students fail to achieve or being laggard in achieving their desired short terms aims mainly for the reason of adaptation into the new Universal of unpredicted environment with number of surprises. Research from ATI scholars showed that the reasons of failure are a combination of a number of deterrence factors, which can be alleviated by the adoption of ATI, augmented strategy fully into practice, which is PDP.
“While there is an increasing need for PDP to be implemented as part of the study programmes, it focuses explicitly on the challenges facing overseas students, surely the experience and knowledge of implementing large scale of work make learners scarce, especially for trans-national, and cross cultural projects. There is yet ‘’no systematic education and training programmes to develop individuals with the integration skills as PDP apart from which sometime students do not understand that PDP is much or equally important than the actual course of study which could that be an undergraduate, professional or even at a postgraduate level’’
PDP aims to address issues such as individual weakness to strengthen the learners to have their own formula to develop their capabilities such an approach originated from ‘Values and Contingency theory management’ as ATI believed that PDP is a non avoidable strategic option for overseas student intend to face the UK’s Challenge in a place where the system is much formal with a number of prerequisite… the programmes provides the opportunity to extend the individual learners curriculum concept by adapting ATI’s PDP System Structure fully and continuously during their terms of study.
PDP was partially launched at the beginning of 2004 as an initiative by ATI to foster the demand of overseas learner and developed a more positive approach with the higher education with an extra investment to each individual student wish to inherent PDP with no obligation for students to take part of it, the aims is to provide support by canalising learners on the rail tracks without failure, this consist of many areas of input such as human resource development which consist of curriculum development and systems adaptation development amongst others.
In addition to be an inner London institution with exceptional internal feature such as 3 in 1 air conditioning system, exercise rooms, disable lift and fully fire certificated building, the college is also an external programmes provider of the University of London (the London School of Economics) specialising in tertiary education, research and consultancy services in education and related areas of social science and professional practice, AT Institute value the sharing of a professional knowledge to those endeavouring for success as a common practice.
Such visions have been put by Nazim Rajbally (Director), the founder of the institution and now by a number of professional individuals working alongside toward the same goal. The overall objective is to create a new ‘’Personal Development Level Curriculum’’ and teaching syllabuses by analysing a combination of socio/cultural and other detrimental influences factors into possible opportunities, which generate the action plan. We believed that Information System cannot response to the PDP task, as information technology not everyone could be educated and trained in the innovative as an ‘’early majority learners’’ and innovation segments of individuals, However, a multi-disciplinary approach is important to manage their own development, this is why PDP is more face to face interactive with a combination of specifically designed programmes formulated to satisfy needs of learners after the individual constraint has been identified.
“It is well known that the implementation of PDP is a serious challenge, even the projects overrun in time or cost over 70% of the students have implemented PDP as a trend of success. Research has showed that the reasons for the students’ failure on the employment ladder even after being graduated are mainly due to candidate’s inability to promote themselves with extra features, some of the simple facts are a good covering letter, CV’s or appropriate training with demonstrable ability are amongst other quantitative skills as a combinations which most of the time proved to be under expectation. ATI help the design of progress for the graduate to create a high profile caliber of candidate which cemented both the qualitatively and quantitatively knowledge to present them as an asset on the employment market as the candidate extra feature (qualities) have to be manifested while attempting to achieve their desired goal. There is yet no systematic education and training programmes to develop persons even with integration skills gained during an academic careers, even in some of the prominent field of study such as Information Technology, Business studies, Accountancy and Law /Management…students have to go through the syllabus of life which something this project aims to address”
ATI provides the opportunity to extend the curriculum concept by PDP in parallel to the major area of study, as the Institute is dedicated to endeavour success, the teaching consists of extra revision class with continuous research and attendances for DPD on a continuous basis are encouraged. In a report from former ATI Scholars stated that despite I was amongst the very best student which has exit me as a scholar at AT Institute, I feel that the PDP is incomparable and is a must for all student’’.
ATI management draws attention to the fact that "high levels of reliability and proficiency" are required by the students; nevertheless the Institute has "high completion and success rates, not least because of the "enthusiasm and motivation from students while studying at ATI they become part of ATI culture".
"Another great feature is that people at large (non ATI students) will have the chance to acquire knowledge by our IS to know about PDP simply by enter one set of log in details on our website to get free advice on PDP – participant may share ideas and opinion which aiming to improve the design solution related to the Success Endeavor project, for the proposed feasibility study which will analyse the strengths and potentials of the College at national and international markets and looks at the benefits to students, the city and the region. The aim of the study is also to engage stakeholders, from the local community and more widely, to ensure that future collaboration will address the needs.
The most typical route into higher education is that of young people taking GCE A levels at college and moving on to degree-level studies, whereas ATI have been looking at the work-based and vocational routes into higher education as mature applicant, in order to widen educational opportunities for the scope of all sections of society’s demand, these are also known by UK’s Universities as access to Higher Education {HE} or NVQ’s for degree entry.
PDP articles are also publishing in magazines and journals on different topics at a relatively low cost.
